In the short story book An Exu in New York, Cidinha da Silva presents a contemporary and fictional perspective on everyday life, on topics such as politics, ethical crisis, religious racism, generalized loss of rights (mainly by women), blacks and LGBT groups. The author considers these to be important markers of the 21st century and classifies the work as a dynamo-book. Cidinha part of the tensions caused by the perception of religions of African origin to demystify negative ideas that are spread without criteria in society. Through the characters, he brings yet other contemporary themes, such as the new masculinity.
