It is very important for everyone to learn about INVESTIGATION, even if one is not into Media, Legal, Security or other investigative business. Such knowledge helps the individual immensely in PERSONAL SECURITY, BUSINESS MANAGEMENT and in other spheres of life. Furthermore, this book does not just discuss the technical aspects of investigation, but also engages in very interesting thought-provoking lessons in its topical explanations.

5-Star book: "PROFESSIONAL INVESTIGATION", by E. Anim-Danquah, is highly recommended for everyone.

CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICERS (CEOs), COMMANDING OFFICERS, EXECUTIVE DIRECTORS and such likes can also make their work easier by exposing their staff to EXCELLENT REPORT WRITING SKILLS expunged in this book.

“PROFESSIONAL INVESTIGATION” is a highly rated investigation textbook about the only kind in the world. There are millions of investigation books all over the world but the same cannot be said for INVESTIGATION TEXTBOOKS as this one.

Apart from being an excellent teaching/training material for Investigative/Security setups and Intelligence Agencies worldwide, this book is a UNIQUE post-training reference/guide for these systems.

Among many other thought-provoking discussions, PROFESSIONAL INVESTIGATION looks at (1) The Importance of PLANNING in investigation (anticipation of possible influences/undesirable controls, access to useful information, availability of funds/logistics and judicious use of same, motivation, vulnerabilities, etc.); (2) EVIDENCE: (Types, Acquisition and Presentation in Reports, Burden Of Proof in Civil and Criminal Cases, Preservation of Evidence – STPs, Admissible and Inadmissible Evidence, etc.); (3) INTERROGATION: (Preparation, Urgency of tasks, Intent and Action, Secrecy and Security Arrangements, the art of questioning Suspects, Accused and Witnesses, the objective of interrogation, “Confrontation” and its importance in investigation, Independent Witnesses, Interpreters, the Special Interrogation Report, etc.); (4) ARRESTS, SEARCHES AND DETENTION: (objective, legal requirements and implications, criminal procedures, etc.); (5) STATEMENTS: (procedure, types, Cautioning: standard caution words and procedures, the “Statement” NOT an “Investigation Report” on its own, etc.); (6) MODUS OPERANDI (Methods Of Operation (M.O.) ): This is the most critical tool in the EFFECTIVE and EFFICIENT combat of crimes and offences; looks at importance of M.O., critical elements of M.O., factors influencing changes in the M.O. of criminals/offenders, government policy formulation, etc.); (7) DISTRACTION: importance in investigation, Congested Offices, causes, effects and control of distraction, etc.); (8) REPORTS: (effective presentation of evidence in reports, key factors for EXCELLENT REPORTING, classification, preservation of reports, etc.); (9) CASE STUDIES: Interestingly, also, special TEST CASES are discussed towards the end of the book to equip the student (and reader, where applicable) with great skills to handle ALL SECURITY ISSUES confidently. These test cases can be used as standard examination questions for Senior Officers undergoing training or refresher courses in all Security and Intelligence Agencies to test their thinking and professional judgment.

Additionally, the book provides good tuition on PERSONAL SECURITY, something which no one should take for granted even if one has paid security details providing such services 24/7. Remember, it’s PERSONAL SECURITY and not SECURITY BY ANOTHER PERSON. The best person to trust is one’s own self in security matters. If the security guard turns his neck around, how do you put him in check if you have no idea yourself. Note that guns and gadgets are never enough to secure one’s life in terms of “PREVENTIVE” SECURITY. Learn more from “PROFESSIONAL INVESTIGATION” by E. Anim-Danquah and protect yourself and your family. The book is further recommended to professionals like judges/magistrates, journalists, businessmen (especially those who own large businesses), legal practitioners, private security organizations and the intelligence fraternity.

PROFESSIONAL INVESTIGATION by Emmanuel Anim-Danquah is an eye-opening book on the principles of investigation, a comprehensive book that details the step-by-step rules to follow in an investigation, what to know and how to successfully conduct and complete an investigation. The author talks about the importance of planning, of considering funding and logistics, of the taboos involved and the legal steps that eventually lead to the truth. Readers will understand the kind of evidence deemed admissible in court, how to acquire such evidence, and how to craft reports that are acceptable in civil and criminal cases. The book explores the different moments of the investigation, including admissible and inadmissible evidence, arrests, interrogation, searches, statements, arrests and a lot more. This is a book that investigators and rookies need to read, a reference book that will help any investigator and police officer do their work better. Professional Investigation by Emmanuel AnimDanquah is well-researched and the author provides material that readers need to know. I never knew that an investigation required so much and that the rules were so many and this book didn’t just inform but explained why many hard pieces of evidence are denied in a court of law. In the introduction, the author explains why it is important that the investigation is done right and thoroughly, and makes a very troubling statement: “Professionalism is key in the conduct of investigation. Wrong arrests, wrong reports, delayed reports, shelving, and censuring of vital evidence leading to misleading judgments in prosecution, wrong decision making in policy formulation and so on are very grave concerns in investigation.” This book provides need-to-know information to the general reader, tips to investigators, and the place that professional investigation has in the pursuit of justice. It is a vade-me-cum for anyone who is desirous of justice and who wants to understand the mechanics of successful investigations.

Professional Investigation is well-researched, professionally written and packed with interesting information.

PROFESSIONAL INVESTIGATION
By E. Anim-Danquah.

RELEASE DATE: Oct. 26, 2018

A primer offers basic principles of investigation.

Anim-Danquah (Principles of Interrogation, 2013) cautions readers that since the stakes are so high, an investigator can never be too meticulous. His brief but comprehensive survey is broadly conceived to cover “training material for all levels in all Security Services and Intelligence Agencies but equally a very good source of reference after formal training or during professional practice.” The author proceeds systematically, discussing the chief elements of the various kinds of investigation, the basic considerations of interrogation, and the types of evidence and the methods of gathering it. In addition, he analyzes in considerable detail the kinds of modus operandi: 23 different factors that in their totality define any “particular criminal activity or offence.” He devotes an unusual amount of attention to the filling out of reports and the distinction between various types, and he includes samples. This is especially peculiar since the author’s explanatory scope is so broad—it can’t possibly be the case that every investigator in every jurisdiction is confronted with the same forms. Equally puzzling is his protracted assessment of the various distractions that could stymie a successful investigation; for example, he warns against the deflection of one’s attention that could be caused by offensive odors. The book concludes with a series of helpful illustrative case studies that feature instructional questions. Anim-Danquah worked in investigations and intelligence for the government of Ghana for more than 20 years, and his thoroughness and rigor are clear expressions of that expertise. His primer is best used as a reference source—an encyclopedic catalog of all the basic ingredients of investigation, very generally understood. But it’s not an instructional guide in the sense of providing much actionable counsel—readers will learn much more about the various categories of evidence than its professional collection. In addition, the author too often dwells on points so common-sensical as to be banal. For example, it seems unnecessary to insist that aspiring investigators check their spelling on the reports they file.

An exhaustive account of investigation principles, more academic in conception than immediately practical.
