About the Author Pat Goudey started her professional publishing life in 1970 working as an editorial assistant in the text book division at Prentice-Hall, Inc., and later became a print journalist and non-fiction writer—reporting, editing, and working on graphic arts for Fidelity Investment's Community Newspapers, Inc. in Massachusetts. She later wrote articles and personality profiles for the All American Crafts group of magazines in New Jersey. In addition to writing and editing, Pat did a two-year stint as assistant to the general manager of the 240-seat Foxborough Regional Center for the Performing Arts in Massachusetts, helping to create, produce, and promote a year-round schedule of professional plays, concerts, and community events. Before that, Pat spent five years as an EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) in northwestern New Jersey, where she taught emergency first aid skills to ambulance crews, balancing the demands of an on-call schedule with making a home for her husband and two young sons. With her mother, Marie Tedford, Pat co-authored The Official Price Guide to Old Books in 1994. The book is now going into its fourth edition. Pat has used proven techniques to manage her own stress and create an occasional island of calm in a frenzied world. She first learned about stress and its effects on body and mind as a student at Iowa Wesleyan College and Fairleigh Dickinson University, where she majored in psychology. Now a full-time freelance writer living with her husband in Vermont, Pat has made a study of many of the stress management programs that inundate our popular culture, coming at us through print and electronic media, the world of medicine and healing arts, religious and spiritual disciplines, even our cookbooks. She has boiled the information down to the essentials presented in this book to help you find the techniques that work best in your busy life.
