CHARLES H. HAMILTON is director of the J. M. Kaplan Fund, a New York City-based foundation. He is also a research associate at the Indiana University Center on Philanthropy and a visiting fellow at Yale University's Program on Non-Profit Organizations. WARREN R. ILCHMAN is executive directior of the Indiana University Center on Philanthropy and professor of philanthropic studies and public policy. Formerly professor at the University of California, he was program adviser to the Ford Foundation's International Division, dean of Boston University, provost and director of the Rockefelller College of Public Affairs and the Rockefeller Institute of Government, SUNY, and president of the Pratt Institute. He is the author of twelve books.
